The Gift of Becoming

How do we give digital natives what we know is really important -- the opportunity to become like their heroes -- instead of just giving them technology?

This generation of digital natives will grow up with the best technology humanity has ever known. They’ll have the tools to connect, learn, and create in ways we couldn’t even dream of just a few decades ago. But that doesn’t guarantee they’ll have the best childhoods. Technology alone isn’t enough. A truly great childhood is one that shapes the heart, mind, and character—one that gives children the opportunity to become their own heroes.

To give the gift of development is to give the gift of becoming. It’s about creating a world where kids don’t just survive but thrive—where their confidence blossoms, their creativity is nurtured, and their personalities shine with enthusiasm, industriousness, and courage. It’s about helping them develop the heroic traits they admire in the stories they love, traits like assertiveness, kindness, and resilience.

How do we do this in an age of loneliness and anxiety? We do it together. As parents, educators, mentors, and community members, we form a tribe, a network of support. We create spaces that foster well-being and celebrate individuality. We model the traits we hope to see in them and reward their growth with encouragement and opportunity.

This is how we build a generation of confident, compassionate, and capable individuals. Not by relying on technology alone, but by providing what technology cannot: connection, purpose, and the inspiration to become the best version of themselves. Together, we can give them the childhood they deserve.
